Sunflowers

There is strength and resilience in the sunflower. They grow all over the world and are able to take root in adverse conditions. While they exude strength they also bring joy and warmth. 

This drawing was made in the waning days of summer 2024 while finishing up a rather large commission containing sunflowers! A challenge that occurred with the both the drawing and sculpture was how to depict the sunflower seeds. While just three of the blooms here are open, finding the right balance and texture for the seeds was important and took a good deal of tinkering. I’m proud to present the results here.
